In my washing machine right now, there is a load of musty-smelling clothes that need to be washed. Again. For the third time in a row. You would think that a modern woman like me with the modern conveniences of a washer and a dryer in her home could manage to get a load of laundry washed and dried, if not folded and put away, in less than three days. You would think that if you didn’t have teenagers and only one car this week. If you do, well, then you understand that even your interruptions are interrupted by interruptions. And unlike teenagers, laundry will just sit quietly, steeping in it’s own mildew, waiting patiently for you to come back.
Before I had kids, laundry was a day and not a state of being. Now laundry is not only a state of being but a decorating scheme. There is laundry on the laundry room floor waiting its turn for a weekend get-away in the washer. There is laundry in the dryer waiting for Godot. There is laundry in baskets waiting to be dumped out and mingled with their dirty friends or perhaps put away. There are piles of laundry on bedroom floors (including mine! Ouch this falls in the do as I say not as I do category). And yet another pile of laundry positioned just so in front of a nice bookcase where you might expect to see an artful display of books or a vase or even a glass penguin. But no, that would be so expected, so pedestrian. A stack of gym socks and underwear says so much more about who we are.

We have incorporated laundry chic into our lives here in Payson and I am glad to know that we are part of a trend that can be seen on the east coast as well. Do you think they started this idea on the continent?

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that leaves there clothes in the washer, and has to rewash them. i keep telling myself I'm going to stop doing that, but it never works. Kevin says there is always laundry on the floor when he gets home. I have to constantly remind him that I had already folded two batches, and I left the last one of the day for him!! Aren't I nice.
I love how Lindsay wears the pants and makes Kevin fold them. Go Lindz! I myself never get behind on laundry and enjoy the challenge of staying ahead of the laundry game.
OK so I found myself asking Gary how in the world his mom kept up the laundry for 8 children! Laundry day? Another amazing Sue McGiven story.
I don't even want to talk about it. I actually do enjoy laundry because I get to sit down. Adam is a wonderful help in that area and helps out while we watch our hour of news each night.
seriously you should see my room. i have two baskets full of clean laundry waiting to be folded. And I have a load in the dryer (which we always have to dry twice b/c our dryer is going out) and a load in the wash. B/c we always have to dry everything twice our laundry ends up sitting in our washer for like two days. We almost always have to wash it again. Glad to know I'm not the only one. I was just thinking the other day how much money we could save in laundry detergent if I could get my clothes in the dryer on time!! :)
